Amy Slazyk is a mom of three children, Mason 10, Griffin 9 and Hampton 6. She has been married to her husband Steve for 16 years and is employed full time at P&G.
If someone had told me a year ago that I’d have a successful jewelry business I would have been highly suspicious of that person and suspected that they either A) didn’t know me well enough or B) had taken one too many shots to the head. I mean seriously…I work full time, am always shuffling kids around and I only wore my watch and wedding rings. And besides…what did I know about jewelry?
Then something happened that literally changed my life. I went (begrudgingly) to a Jewel Kade party my sister was hosting. I really liked the jewelry and bought a couple of pieces, but wasn’t sure if I’d wear it. I decided to host my own party, and when I saw my friends go crazy over the designs and the custom poetry canvases I saw an opportunity. Jewel Kade is still a fairly ground floor opportunity and none of my friends had ever heard of it, so the opportunity I saw was to enter a business that wasn’t yet saturated with a million other reps.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I primarily joined Jewel Kade as a means to get some pretty incredible jewelry for free. And I also thought if I could make just enough money to help maybe pay for our Spring Break that’d be the icing on the cake. I never dreamed that 10 months later I’d consistently be one of the top in sales in my group, have so much fun learning how to wear and layer jewelry and help style other people to do the same, and have met so many incredible women who share so much in common with me.
The wonderful thing about being in Direct Sales is that you get to set your own schedule. You can party as much or as little as you’d like. Just want to make enough extra money during the holidays? That’s ok too? Just want to make enough to cover your own jewelry habit? Yup! Want to get out of the house and spend some time with ladies occasionally! We’ve got that too!
If you’re considering joining a Direct Sales company, I would of course love to talk to you about Jewel Kade, but also want to offer you some tips on choosing the opportunity that is right for you. Here are my own tips on choosing:
- Is this a product you can believe in and sell to your friends and relatives
- Is there still room in this company for new consultants to gain customers or is the market already saturated
- Does the company offer a generous compensation plan opportunity for advancement
- What are the start up costs involved and ongoing maintenance costs
- Is the company a member in good standing with the Direct Selling Association
While this list isn’t all inclusive of considerations that need to be given before joining a Direct Selling organization, these are just a few that I think can help point you in the right direction when considering your options.
I would, of course, love to have you on my team with Jewel Kade, but am also happy to talk to you about other opportunities you are considering if you’d just like someone to bounce ideas off of.
